608295 History of Literature and Literary Life: Contemporary Literature from Austria
summer semester 2019 | Last update: 30.09.2019 | Place course on memo listStudents train their skills in analyzing contemporary prose and gain knowledge about the works' first reception. They get to know various tendencies in contemporary german prose.
In this course, we will read and discuss key texts from the most recent Austrian literature, as well as deal with new trends (such as inter- / trans-cultural literature, new-media literature, performance literature).
We will begin with specific questions on the treatment of contemporary literature in German university studies and with the question of the usefulness of national reference frameworks for literature.
The program is intended to reflect the versatility of contemporary literary production in Austria. Historical prerequisites and contemporary social conditions are taken into account as well as the literary scene (publishers, prices, literary market) and the central literary journals.
Discussions, group work, short lectures
