622006 PS Contemporary History: The global refugee Crisis of the 1930s
summer semester 2019 | Last update: 27.06.2019 | Place course on memo listAcquisition of basic skills for dealing with historic sources and presentations of Contemporary History as well as skills in presenting the newly acquired knowledge orally as well as in writing.
The seminar offers an introduction into a rather dramatic section of Contemporary History. It analyses the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of people from the German speaking countries during the National Socialistic expansion throughout Central Europe during the 1930s. It opens new perspectives in media discourses about refugees outside the areas dominated by the 3rd Reich. This allows gaining essential competences in critically analysing newspaper and media articles as important sources in Contemporary History. Students will further practice to present the acquired knowledge in a seminar paper and an oral presentation.
Interactive learning process: oral presentations, papers, discussions.
Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation and handout, paper (10 pages).
Guided research of selected literature will be part of the required tasks.
