Students will learn to perform regeneration experiments on small organisms and will stain and analyse important organ systems. Morphology and marker molecules will be used for taxonomic and phylogenetic assessments.
Samples will be taken from the wild and in the laboratory and processed for photography and taxonomic identification. DNA and/or RNA will be extracted and used for PCRs to amplify marker molecules. PCR products will be sequenced and analysed.
Remaining individuals of the same species will be subjected to regeneration experiments, and intact animals as well as regenerates will be observed and histochemically stained.
