800642 SE The European Parliament
summer semester 2019 | Last update: 07.03.2019 | Place course on memo listStudents can explain and describe the processes and the functioning of the European Union. Based on specific parliamentary-focussed workshops, the participants of the seminar understand the driving forces of the European decision-making process.
After introducing the basic historical and legal drivers of the European integration process, the seminar focusses on the relationship between the most important institutional actors. Starting from the European Parliament, the seminar examines the forces and counterforces of the decision-making process in the EU. Special consideration will be given to the European Parliament's elections, which will take place in May 2019 and significantly influence the future direction of the whole European integration process.
The seminar will provide insights into the political system of the EU based on case-specific workshops. Typical institutional proceedings are explained as practical and concise as possible, with always considering the broader historical context and legal framework. Regular reading exercises and individual presentations will introduce/guide through the above-mentioned topics and lay the foundations for group discussions and interactive learning tools.
Regular participation in the seminar, reading homework and presentations.
