The students should learn the ability of modeling data for research in humanities using different data-modeling techniques. Three different ways of data-modeling are in focus of this course: Modeling data using the relational data models, modeling data using graph data models, and modeling data using semi-structured data models. After the course the students will grasp the benefits and challenges using each of these models and know when and how to apply a certain model for different research projects.

For each data-modeling method the lecturer will provide students with sample data-set and specialized free software for data management. The students will try out different data queries and make change to the data-set. Then we will discuss the benefits and limits of this data-modeling approach.

Course with exercise.

The following factors will have impact on the final grade: Participation on the course, and the results of the exercises.

Literature will be announced at the beginning of the course.

None.

In order to finish the course, students will need their own computer to which different tools will be installed.
