408060 VO Structures and Change of Contemporary Society 1
winter semester 2019/2020 | Last update: 05.03.2020 | Place course on memo listStudents are able to name the most important theoretical models of contemporary society and to explain structures and changes within different society models. They recognize the possibilities and limits opened by socio-theoretical models, and they understand the dependence of society models on their respective social context of origin.
The structures of modern society experience currently a global diffusion. That is shown by the diffusion of the capitalist market economy with its social und ecological following problems; formal organizations as schools, hospitals or universities; dangerous technologies, mass media, urban life forms or pathogen patterns of nutrition.
In this seminar the transformation of modernen society especially will be analyzed with regard to the ecological problems, especially the global climate change, in various theoretical (Luhmann, Dux, Bourdieu etc. ) and empirical perspectives (ecologicalization of the capistalist market economy, mobility, consumption habits, etc.). To the current developments within the Austrian society we will pay – supported by data of austrian social statistics – special attention.
