winter semester 2019/2020 | Last update: 08.01.2020 | Place course on memo listThe module provides an overview of the main topics and current research issues of a special sociology (e.g. sociology of consumption, urban sociology). Students learn about the development of the respective research field and key theoretical concepts and perspectives in the context of the broader sociological tradition. Students can evaluate and discuss the relevance and importance of sociological perspectives and interpretative-qualitative, cultural sociological research approaches in the context of these research fields. They are able to compare and evaluate positions within the debates in these fields of knowledge. Students are encouraged to apply the insights gained to other contexts and to develop new research questions.
This module deals with issues of consumption and everyday provision. It considers historical, political and macro-economic conditions for present consumption regimes as well as the social structural dimensions of consumer cultures in Europe. The lecture also provides an introduction to theoretical perspectives of socio-economics, economic and cultural sociology and the sociology of consumption. Special attention will be given to housing and consumption in the urban context, ecological transformation and the variety and change of modes of provision.
