Learning Outcome:

Students will be challenged to work on and discuss typical texts on culture and society independently and critically. Objective: Knowledge of diverse theories of culture in the social sciences and understanding of the meaning and relevance of the concept of culture for sociology and social research.

Contents:

The lecture will offer an overview of the diversity of the concepts of culture, that are central to the social sciences, and the consequences of related theoretical choices for understanding the social.

Methods:

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).

Assessment:

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"
