This lecture provides students with a basic understanding of competition theory and policy: how do imperfectly competitive markets work? How can we assess market power and which are the consequences on welfare? How do cartels and collusion amongst firms work? On the basis of this knowledge students are able to analyse regulatory policies and their impact on companies using case studies.

  • Markets with imperfect competition
  • Assessment of market power and effects on welfare
  • Horizontal and vertical integration
  • Cartels, anti-competitive practices
Lectures and informal discussion.
