During the seminar, students will work with case studies and exercises from the field of management accounting and control. Additionally, students will prepare and give presentations and write seminar papers about specific topics in this field. Moreover, academic papers dealing with specific topics in the above-mentioned field will be discussed in class. At the end of the seminar, students should be able to:

-       explain the objectives and characteristics of various tools and instruments commonly used for management accounting and control as well as performance management

-       assess the relevance of these tools for managing corporations and business units

-       understand how financial and non-financial information may affect behavior and decision-making in organizations

-       explain the relevance of management accounting information for implementing strategy and managing important value drivers

-       explain and critically discuss the role(s) of controllers/financial managers within the organization

Case studies, exercises and readings from the field of management accounting & control as well as student presentations and seminar papers dealing with specific topics discussed in the associated lecture.
