Methodic reflected dealings with literary texts and the development of a reasoned understanding of the text; Reconsider patterns and habits of reading

Alfred Kerr was one of the most famous literary critics in Germany between 1900 and 1933. We will focus on his statement: "Was Dichtung zu geben hat, gab meine Dichtung der kritischen Kunst. Fortan ist zu sagen: Dichtung zerfällt in Epik, Lyrik, Dramatik und Kritik." For this we will not only deal with selected texts by Alfred Kerr, but also with those of his contemporaries from Hugo von Hofmannsthal to Kurt Tucholsky, who are located in a border area of literature and journalism.
