Exemplary examination of a central topic at the intersection of literature and media studies. Independent reflection and analysis of the roll of different media for the production, distribution and reception of literature based on profound knowledge.

Coming of Age is one of the central and fascinating themes in literature and film. But coming of age stories themselves play a crucial role in adolescent years, thus creating a feedback loop: What we learn in our youth about youth and coming of age, we learn through stories. These stories seem to share specific topoi, media codes and means of representation across different media. This course takes a close look into these forms of representation as well as their sociocultural implications, with a focus on gender. Besides literature and film, the course also focuses on videogames.
