Acquisition of the skill, to formulate a suitable question on a topic in Contemporary History after the research discussion. ability to analyse a topic supported by sources; ability to present the research results in an appropriate way with regards to contents and form; skill to critically reflect on the relevance and the methods of one´s own work.

National Socialism and the Holocaust are still all the rage in contemporary research. Be it in historical documentaries, museums and memorial culture, the negotiations of new limits and possibilities of the online world or the discussions surrounding public history, populism or re-nationalization, these themes are in the focus of many studies. It is the aim of the seminar to evaluate critically these trends and, using specific examples, to show the current possibilities of storytelling and of public history.

Lecture, discussion, required reading 

Regular attendance, active participation in discussions, required readings, oral presentation, written paper.

A full reading list will be provided at the start of the course.

Two positively graduated modules of choice modules 1 to 6.
