The students recognize the benefit of pedagogical content knowledge in biological education for their own teaching, have an overview about national and European educational goals in teaching biology and environmental sciences, are familiar with central theories in pedagogical content knowledge in teaching biology and can categorize and interpret content knowledge in the context of pedagogical content knowledge. They get insight in how to plan and organize competence-oriented biological education as well as to secure the outcome and are able to link theoretical knowledge with observations made in practice. 

Pedagogical content knowledge in Biology as science; Scientific basic education / educational goals, basic concepts, principles and possible construction of teaching biology, competence model / competence-oriented teaching, models of subject-specific teaching, analysis of case examples of real teaching situations in class (methodology, subject-based reduction), discussion about planning and specialization of a successful biological education (analysis of case examples); quality assurance of biological education

Media-based lecture (teacher talk) where students get involved as well.
