The acquisition of basic skills in dealing with sources and literature, especially in ancient history.

The Greek Archaic period was a phase of transfomation. Within this period, not only the alphabet was introduced from the Phoenicians, but other prominent developments emerged (e.g. the polis, the phalanx-tactic, coinage, etc.). The course will deal with these internal developments but will also look for the external impulses that influenced Greek culture (Egypt and the Ancient Near East).

Combination of lecture, guided reading, short presentations and group work.

Exercises, participation, written paper.

Relevant literature will be announced during the course.

Online registration, maximum up to 25 participants.
