The acquisition of basic skills in dealing with ancient sources.

Based on written and material sources of the Greek and Roman world (including examples from the Ancient Near East and Egypt), we shed light on the art of healing between magic and science. The texts provide insights into medical knowledge and ideas, rituals and magical practices to cure illnesses and document the perception of medical fields of activity.

Combination of lecture, reading tasks, exercises and group work.

Participation and short essay.

Relevant literature will be announced during the course.
