Overview and status of research on the environmental history of modern Europe

Environmental History asks how past societies interacted with their environments and how people related to the rest of nature. In this course we will turn to the environmental history of modern Europe which stands out from earlier epochs by the extent of human intervention in the environment and the far-reaching, partly unintended consequences of these interventions for both societies and environments.
