645605 PS Empiricial Research: interview analysis
winter semester 2019/2020 | Last update: 09.10.2019 | Place course on memo listIntroduction in the methodology of interviews and their analysis, establishing critical methodological thinking.
Collecting data through interviews is one of the most important methodological approaches in ethnography. While there is a lot of literature on how to conduct interviews and how to transform data into text, there is only little advice on how to interpret the data systematically. Narrative analysis offers a structured way to analyse interview data by focussing on the communication and interaction.
We will learn how to prepare and conduct interviews and how to work with the data about urban anthropology. This course is primarily for students who want to use interview materials in their works.
We will cooperate with other courses about the topic urban anthropology.
Lectures, exercises, working with data alone and in groups.
Written exam: using narrative analysis in one's own interview material, reflexion of interview; active participation.
Gabriele Lucius-Hoene/Arnulf Deppermann: Rekonstruktion narrativer Identität. Ein Arbeitsbuch zur Analyse narrativer Interviews. 2. Auflage, Wiesbaden 2004.
This course is part of a cooperation between the university and the Tyrolian State Museums in preparation of Forum Stadt. It is recommended for students to enrol in all courses, i.e. 645605 (Silke Meyer): Interviews und Interviewanalyse zum Thema Stadtanthropologie, 645617 (Konrad Kuhn): Perspektiven und Zugänge einer urbanen Anthropologie and 645614 (Anna Engl, Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum): Regionalkultur: MyInnsbruck: Kulturwissenschaft und Öffentlichkeit.
