Historicization and explanation of practices of waiver as cultural phenomena.
Less is more: Fasting, deceleration, the SLOW MOVEMENT and beliefs like „true love waits” – practices of renunciation and abstinence are highly popular in certain social groups and milieus. In this course, we want to describe, contextualize and interpret these practices, both in their historical and their social dimension. Analytical frameworks are critical theories of capitalism, consumerism and modernization, but also spiritual concepts of puritanism and the search for meaning beyond material orders.
