Students learn about tasks and operation fields in different departments of the museum on the example of the Tyrolean State Museums in Innsbruck.

The course should support students in connecting theoretical and methodological knowledge with job-related opportunities of cultural studies.

Which role have museums in a city? Which targets had museums and their collections at the time of their foundation and nowadays? Which are the methods of communication of museal contents and outreach between museum and city? Where are places of encounter?

The course gives insight into different museal working fields and concepts. The Tyrolean Museum of Popular Arts and the Tyrolean State Museums are ready to be places of research. Colleagues tell about concepts for guided tours and various formats for communication between object and human, the department for public relations and curators present their work. Special focus on the conceptual work and research for the FORUM STADT, taking place in october 2020, an open format of discussion with a dense programme.

This course is part of a cooperation between the Innsbruck University and the Tyrolean State Museums in preparation of Forum Stadt.
