Students obtain basic knowledge of composition and structure of the earth, both of the interior of the earth and endogene processes of the lithosphere and dynamic changes on earth’s surface over geologic time scales. Furthermore they obtain an understanding of the evolution of life.

In the course basic knowledge of the components of the solid earth, plate tectonics, pressure- and temperature-distribution deep within the earth, chemical composition, rock cycle and processes that form the earth’s surface on short and long timescales is given. Furthermore an abstract of the formation of the earth and the changes of the earth’s surface and the evolution of life over the last 4.6 billion years is given.
