By means of several guest lectures by practicing city-architects and renowned researchers an insight will be given into the contemporary discourse on the city. Here, contemporary methods for the design and the material organization of the city and the landscape are introduced.
An introduction to critical methods and principles of architectural analysis considered through an in-depth investigation of historically significant buildings, landscapes, and urban spaces. Precedents are analyzed according to their underlying formal structure and spatial organization as well as in terms of the cultural and historical forces that helped shape their architectural form and meaning.
The lecture is an introduction to the critical methods and principles of architectural analysis using contemporary examples of practice and research. The basic knowledge and terminology of the city architecture are conveyed through the analysis of urban spaces according to their underlying formal structure and spatial organization as well as to the cultural and historical forces which have contributed to the form of the architectural form and significance.
Assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.
