Participants give an overview of the subject’s history, its systematic development and main theories and methods. They describe and critically evaluate selected topics (i.a. the term “religion”, Sociology of Religion, Ethnology of Religion, Psychology of Religion, Economy of Religion).

The course gives an overview of the subject’s history, the term „religion“ and offers a basic introduction to the history of religions. It discusses selected topics in religious studies, i.a. rituals, religious experiences and the contemporary situation in a modern world.
Religious Studies regards religion as an discursive category and is based on a non-engaged relationship towards religion. Therefore it is important to evaluate its connection to other sciences, which deal with “religion”, especially theology.
