The students are able to present the history of uniatism. They can explain its reasons, with special consideration of Ecumenism with the Byzantine orthodoxy. They can explicate and discuss the problematic nature of uniatism.

There are 24 Catholic Churches. All these Churches are independent Churches und are in ecclesial and sacramental communion with each other. They constitute the Catholic Church as a denomination with the Roman Pope as its head. The Roman-Catholic Church is the largest one among them. The existence of the 23 Eastern Catholic Churches, stemming from Orthodox Churches often through separation, upsets, again and again, Orthodox Church governing bodies. We will read important texts, with special consideration of Ecumenism with the Byzantine Orthodoxy, to explore the role, the esteem, and the problematic nature of the Eastern Catholic Churches.
