summer semester 2020 | Last update: 23.07.2020 | Place course on memo listUnderstand and discuss the change of the orthographic norm of the Standard German language at the end of the 20th century. Know the structures of the discourses that arised around the reform. Reflect variation and admit it. Know where to look up, in books and online. Research on the application of the reforms in schools, administration and institutions. Master the research on the orthographic changes in online corpora.
At the beginning, the teacher introduces into the subject. How did the conception of the norm change at the end of the 20th century? Why a reform of the orthography? What intended the reformer to achieve and what is realized today? Why a reform of the reform in 2004? What role played and plays the Austrian Lexicon, what about the Duden today?
In parallel, the students will exercise themselves and test the new orthography, by online corpus research. Later, the students will work on subthemes, in groups or with partners, guided by the teacher, for example on: How did the schools introduce the new orthography; research on the real writing orthography from 1990 up to today; create exercises for persons with different needs. Presentation of the group researches to the plenum, short written documentation.
Introduction to the subject with PowerPoint-presentations, mixed with discussions, working in groups/pairs, create exercises, discussing the literature, mid-term exam, feedback of the other students or the teacher, discussions.
Oral and written: active participation in class, preparatory reading, OLAT-tasks, presentations; discussions, short documentation of outcomes
