Representations of literary figures who fall outside the social norms of their respective time eras are found throughout German language literature. Also apparent is one of the most important functions of texts, namely the breaking down of prejudices and stereotypes.The scope of texts covered in the seminar ranges from the eighteenth century to the present day, and encompasses the following authors: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Nepomuk Nestroy, Astrid Lindgren, Christine Nöstlinger, Elias Canetti and Birte Müller. Students will analyse selected examples in terms of their form, style, content and reception.
