summer semester 2020 | Last update: 10.02.2020 | Place course on memo listAbility to read medieval manuscripts from the 8th through the 15th century, familiarity with theories and methods of textual criticism with practical application. Familiarity with xml-encoding according to TEI-standards.
Textual criticism is one of the most thriving disciplines in Medieval German Studies, due to the rise of the so-called digital humanities. We will discuss and apply theories and methods of textual criticism to unedited manuscript texts and produce a 'mini'-edition of such a text - according to the standards of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI).
Introduction, practical work on selected sample texts (manuscripts).
Critical edition of a sample text.
