Participants will learn about the cognitive theory of metaphor and its application to the study of varieties of English. 

This course will focus on the use and variation of conceptual metaphors in varieties of English. In addition to the embodied nature of metaphor, we will take a closer look at the relationship between metaphor and culture. In this way, we will dive into the long-lasting debate of universality and variation of metaphor. 

Introductory inputs on the theories and methods, discussion of reading assignments, group works, and oral presentations

Compulsory attendance to the first session, regular attendance, participation in discussions and group works, oral presentation, and seminar paper
