It is shown that a city must first be read historically in order to understand and explain certain developments. Monuments, memorials or memorials are understood as extracurricular places of learning which serve to discover visible and invisible traces of history in the city. Using historical sources and didactic material, the aim is to make visible how history is made locally, who participates in or is excluded from history. Thus, spaces of the political are discovered and questioned.

Analysis and discussion of the function of memorials and memorials as well as other signs of remembrance in public space on the basis of examples in Innsbruck; reflections on possible applications in school teaching (extracurricular places of learning); development of strategies and concepts for making history visible in public space.

Participation in “Zeitgeschichtetag” is required.
