The focus is on the history and culture of the Alpine region in Roman times, from the Ligurian Sea to the Pannonian Basin. On the basis of written and archaeological sources as well as historical research literature, we gain insights into the provincial administration, as well as into the military, economic, cultural and religious development of the Roman Alpine provinces and we will discuss current historical questions on the history of the Alpine region.
Lecture and presentation of facts, results of research and scholarly debates, discussion and collaborative critical analyses of sources.
Active participation, readings, regular and active participation in discussions, presentation and a paper.
Literature provided with annotations is announced during the course
Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (BA Classica et Orientalia 2009/BA History 2009 and BA Classica et Orientalia 2015/BA History 2015), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
