Critical engagement with historical sites, objects and forms of (re-)presentation in memory cultures; skills for explaining historical phenomena in situ.

Contents:

In this field trip to the city of Munich in Bavaria we will study the history and the architecture of some central buildings of the Bavarian capital, including the “Alter Hof”, the “Residence”, the “Blutenburg”, the “Old Peter”. Also we will see the most famous objects in the Bavarian National Museum and some medieval manuscripts in the Bavarian National Library.

Methods:

Presentations of the course instructors and other local experts, preparation of historical material about the visited places.
