Students should obtain a good understanding of the special nature of hyperbolic systems (shocks, etc.) and how those can be exploited to derive efficient numerical methods. They will also become familiar with the most commonly used numerical techniques in that field.
Weak solution concept for hyperbolic equations (entropy condition), Riemann problem for the Euler equations & analytic solution, Riemann solver based numerical methods, Exact and approximate Riemann solvers, Riemann solver free numerical methods.
Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"
