Students will know (1) how to write a successful funding proposal, (2) how to write a successful job application in academia, (3) how to navigate complex issues such as co-authorship and the order of authorship.

- sources of traditional and non-traditional funding

- writing a research proposal

- career strategies and building a stand-out CV

- writing a successful academic job application

- what to expect when short-listed for a job

- who should be included on a paper and in what order

- open science

- sustainability of researchers in academia

- topics that people don't like to discuss

 

Presentations by staff at different stages of their careers, group discussions, practical exercises 

Continuous assessment (based on regular oral contributions by participants)

This course is intended for students of the Doctoral College Mountain Climate and Environment, but is open to all student in the Faculty of Geo and Atmospheric Sciences.
