Students master the theoretical foundations of nonlinear finite element methods (FEM) and are capable of the FEM for numerical simulation of the structural behavior flat and spatial structures until the occurrence of the failure of practical problems apply.

Carrying capacity analysis of steel structures and of concrete and reinforced concrete structures with the finite element method; nonlinear numerical material models for steel and concrete on the basis of the theory of plasticity and damage theory; incremental-iterative solution method.
