The students are aware of the differences between linear and nonlinear systems and methods in control. They are able to select and apply an appropriate method to design feedforward and feedback controllers as well as observers for a given nonlinear system.

Mathematical models of non-linear systems, fundamental differences in behaviour of linear and non-linear systems: existence and uniqueness of solutions, chaos, finite escape time, equilibria, limit cycles and invariant sets, Lyapunov-stability, exponential stability, Lyapunov-based control, backstepping and methods from geometric control: exact linearization, flat systems and flatness-based control.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).

written exam

Will be discussed in the first lesson.
