Acquaintance with the central anthropological topics of agency, powers and dispositions.

Plumbers repair lavatories, dogs sit up and beg, cats catch mice. We ascribe such events to humans or animals with specific powers. Humans or animals bring about specific events because they have specific powers, preferences, habits or skills.
In the seminar we discuss the following questions: Which influence do dispositions and powers have on agency? Is it up to the agents to bring about their actions or are they determined through capacities, preferences and habits? What happens in the case of divergent agent causal dispositions?

Reading and discussion of texts.

Essays.
