SE Seminar for Doctoral Students: Data-Modeling for Humanities Research I: Data-Types and Structured Data

The students should earn the ability of modeling data for research in humanities using structured data. The students will learn the difference between data-types and the usage of relational database management system to manage structured datasets.

After an introduction to data-modelling and data types, the students will install open source database software on their own computer. The lecturer will provide students will a sample dataset, and students should be able to query the data using simple SQL. After that, the students should create their own data-sets using their own projects.
Subjects related to data-modelling – e.g. data licensing, data archiving, and other types of data-modelling – will be discussed in the course.
Please note that there will be a second course in the summer term aiming at semi-structured data.
