winter semester 2020/2021 | Last update: 30.11.2020 | Place course on memo listKnowing the significant texts of one of the most important epochs of the entire history of Christianity. We will study the emerging world theology in its confrontation with ecumenical, inter- and non-religious world views as presented in the sources.
We will analyze the defining transformation of society, belief and the Church in the 20th century and study key texts of the Roman-Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox tradition in systematical order. We will work on the following subjects
- the Nature of Christianity
- inner-christian Ecumenism
- relation to Judaism
- relations to non-Christian religions
- christian belief and society (secularity, political totalitarianism and democracy)
- Christian belief and science
The Second Vatican Council was a key event for the catholic tradition. For all Christian Churches the ecumenical movement and the establishment of the World Council of Churches (1948, now in Geneve) played a key role.
Discussion of the texts provided.
