402100 VU Political System of Austria - Enhanced Level: Politics of citizenship: Austria in comparison with other European countries
winter semester 2020/2021 | Last update: 27.07.2021 | Place course on memo list§5(2)2.b. SE Political System of Austria - Enhanced Level (2 / 5)
Students are able to illustrate individual sections of the Austrian political system. They acquire in-depth knowledge in these sections and are able to individually work in other sections
Rules on the acquisition and loss of citizenship and the rights it entails constitute a core of national sovereignty. In essence, these rules define who is regarded as a member of the demos – the political community – and who is not. Challenges to the politics of citizenship arise in particular from international migration (Who has access to citizenship?) and European integration (What is citizenship?). The lecture/seminar focuses on the politics of citizenship and their demographic, social and economic implications with an emphasis on Austria in comparison with other European countries.
Lectures, group exercises and written assignments
Assessment is based upon two literature reviews (each 20% of the overall grade, individual work), one presentation in the seminar (20%, team work) and an essay on a given topic (3000-4000 words, 40%, team work).
Will be available on OLAT before October.
