Curr. § 5 (2) 4: Students acquire the ability to illustrate selected fields of rural and regional sociology (e.g. agro-food studies, agriculture-environment relations, development of the relationships be-tween the urban and rural environments, etc.), and they know the relevant discussions. Thy use theoretical concepts to analyse changes of economic and consumption patterns and val-ues as well as the influence of regulative interventions. They are able to analyse and evaluate the effects of social change in terms of identities, actions and relations between relevant ac-tors based on specific issues.

The lecture deals with agro-food studies beyond the usual dichotomy of production and consumption. Connections between food production and consumption are dealt with both on a macro level (globalization, relocalization, concentration of power in processing and trade, etc.) and on a micro and meso level (quality perceptions, changes in production and consumption patterns, etc.). Various concepts and theoretical approaches for analysis are combined with empirical findings. Learning objectives of the lecture After successful completion of the lecture, the students are able to:• Describe complex dynamics of processes in the food system. • Determine different sociological concepts and theories of agri-food studies.• Explain selected sociological concepts and theories of agri-food studies.
