Learning Outcome:

Curr. § 5 (2) 4: Students acquire the ability to illustrate selected fields of rural and regional sociology (e.g. agro-food studies, agriculture-environment relations, development of the relationships be-tween the urban and rural environments, etc.), and they know the relevant discussions. Thy use theoretical concepts to analyse changes of economic and consumption patterns and val-ues as well as the influence of regulative interventions. They are able to analyse and evaluate the effects of social change in terms of identities, actions and relations between relevant ac-tors based on specific issues.

Contents:

The seminar deals with selected examples on various areas of Afro-Food Studies, both from a macro perspective and from the micro level. In addition to the structures that determine the food industry, a focus is placed on the social relationships that arise via food from production to consumption (and also via food waste). Learning objectives of the seminar After successfully completing this course, students are able to:• Discuss current challenges related to agro-food studies. • Categorize and compare selected sociological theories and concepts of agro-food studies. • Determine key messages from scientific texts. • Present scientific content orally. • Analyze a relevant sociological question using theories and concepts related to agro-food studies.

Assessment:

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"

positive completion of the compulsory module according to § 5 Para 1 No 10
