Ability for deepened explanation of selected topics of economic and social history including a historically grounded analysis of the present.

The recent Covid pandemic still keeps us busy. However, it is by far not the first such event. Quite the contrary, the challenge by partly catastrophic diseases is running through recorded global economic and social history. In the PS, selected episodes from all epochs of this history will be elaborated together, particularly with respect to reasons, reactions and results.

Crucial prerequisite for participation are interest in the topic and openness for an interdisciplinary approach. Participation in the connected lecture is recommended (and necessary if the whole module is to be completed).

The actual proceedings of the PS will be subject to the current Covid situation during the whole semester. Hence, follow information in OLAT and check your uibk-e-mails! Generally, presence in the seminar room will only partially be necessary and only be possible with restrictions. The first unit at 12 October will anyway be "online only"  and further dates of the PS will be at the scheduled times.

Students from programs other than economics, especially from sociology, political science and history, are explicitly welcome due to the interdisciplinary character of the course. In these cases, enrollment for the PS is also necessary online, later enrollment in person will not be possible in this semester.
