The lecture offers an overview of the German and Austrian literature and its political and socio-cultural contexts from 1880 to 1918, concentrating on topics, genres and trends. Main authors will be H. Dohm, Lou-Andreas-Salomé, G. Hauptmann, H. Bahr, R. Mayreder, H. v. Hofmannsthal, F. Kafka, R. Musil, R. M. Rilke, A. Schnitzler, G. Trakl and authors of Expressionism, K. Kraus et al.
