Knowledge of the Baroque as style and epoch in Cultural History, perspective of Baroque philosophical theories, knowledge of Góngora and Sor Juana, poetry

The epochs of Spanish and Hispanic Baroque are effective until today, if we think for example about the Caribbean Neobaroque, not least because of the poems by mexican nun and poet Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Her way of thinking about hybridity, but also her feminist approach, questioning gender roles in the 17th century have an effect on prominent philosophers throughout the centuries. The dialogue between Spain and Latin America is of high interest as a form of process of translation, in which the poet Luis de Góngora plays an important part whose aesthetic is imitated and continued in different ways in the Americas. In the centre of our studies will stand the texts Soledades by Góngora and Primero Sueño by Sor Juana. With the example of these two texts, we will think about Baroque theory, as well as philosophical considerations of dream and solitude.
