Acquisition of basic skills for dealing with historic sources and presentations of Contemporary History as well as skills in presenting the newly acquired knowledge orally as well as in writing. Acquisition of basic knowledge and application of relevant methods aiding scientific research.

Socio-economic progress, domestic and foreign political evolution as well as cultural development of the Republic of Brazil (1889-2020). Specific problems of the countries of the so-called Third World will be discussed based on the example of Brazil, the largest and most populated country in South America.

Individual acquirement of a historical survey; oral presentations and handouts, research paper, discussion; internet search, exercises; teacher's lecture.

Course with continuous performance assessment: check of study of literature, attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation and handout, research paper.

Guided research of pertinent literature will be part of the expected tasks.

Positive assessment of compulsory module 1. The respective proof ought to be produced until the end of October 2020.
