Ability to independently make a research-based analysis and contextualisation of a topic in Contemporary History according to scientific rules; skills to independently research and evaluate topic-relevant sources and secondary literature; consolidated skills in writing of his-toric papers (formulation, giving of reasons and defending arguments).

The seminar introduces into basic subject-specific methods (research, writing of a historical treatise) and into the topic of historical newspapers as resources for research. Within this thematic field, students develop and write their bachelor thesis under structured supervision and present the concept as well as preliminary results. The individual choice of a historical topic for the given time period is encouraged.

Reading and analysis of research literature and sources; students’ own investigations; group work and peer assessment; presentations and discussions; lectures;  (online-)exercises.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions,  participation in discussions, active collaboration, exercises, required reading, written paper, oral presentation.

Reading list will be provided.

Positive assessment of one module from the elective modules 7 to 12. The respective proof ought to be produced until the end of October 2020.

Online-enrollment required, starting on Sept 1st, 2020.
