winter semester 2020/2021 | Last update: 08.10.2020 | Place course on memo listBased on a brief account of the Austrian legal system participants will get an application—oriented insight in the legal foundation of everyday life at school. Connecting theoretical background with practical examples we intend to raise the awareness for legal problems at school and the possibilities to solve them. Students gain an overview of the legal sight at the growing complexity of requirements between meeting curricular demands in teaching, fulfilling administrative obligations, finding the right educational measures, considering children’s needs and requests of parents as well as your own concerns.
The course will cover the following key topics:
o Short introduction into the Austrian legal system
o Basic sources of school law
o Impact of school law on everyday life at school – from supervising pupils to giving marks, working with parents and dealing with liability
o Public Services law (presence, working hours,…)
o Organisational school law
o School attendance law
o Working on cases
We will approach the topics of the course by examining the legal foundations of school law in combination with practical problems. Students will get an introduction into the most important sources of information. Being confronted with problems of everyday life at school they learn how to search for the solution autonomously.
Continuous attendance; active contribution; written Proseminar-paper.
