SE Philological Work with Akkadian Texts I: The Erra Epic

Building on the basic knowledge, students enhance their language competence of Akkadian up to a level which enables them to work scientifically with texts in this language; in particular they will be in a position to recognise language-linguistic problems of Akkadian and to find solutions, to judge the texts critically regarding their content, to present the results in scientific form and to prepare themselves thoroughly with various media.

This seminar foucses on the Erra Epic. This texts describes how plague and war hit a civilized and peacefull society and tries to answer the question how the gods, and especially the main god Marduk, could allow such a desaster.

Preparing the transcription and translation of the Akkadian cuneiform texts and jointly discussing the contents.

Participation during the course and final exam at the end of the semester.
