Introduction to Edge-Cloud Continuum. FaaSification of Existing Monolithic Applications. Development of Portable Serverless Distributed Applications. Runtime System Optimization for Distributed Applications. Advanced Techniques in Distributed Systems (Fault Tolerance, Resilience, Security and Data Privacy, Performance). Portable Execution of Distributed Applications.
The first part of the course will cover the theory (protocols, systems, services). In the second part, students will apply this knowledge to cover the distributed application life-cycle (facilitated development, automatized deployment and optimal execution).
Will be presented on the first lecture.
Good knowledge in Java, JS. Basic knowledge of distributed systems.
Planned technologies: AFCL Environment developed within the DPS group, which allows to develop and run distributed applications across multiple cloud providers.
At least two public clouds will be used (AWS and IBM). Students can apply for a vaucher (100$) of Amazon and use IBM London to run serverless applications for free.
Additionally, our local edge-cloud serverless environment will be used.
