Overview on the methods applied in diagnosis of infectious diseases including (i) direct detection of pathogens or components thereof, (ii) isolation, selection and cultivation of pathogens, and (iii) detection of the specific and unspecific immunological immunological reactions.
Discussion of the diverse methods used in diagnosis of infectious diseases including microscopy (different stainings), bacteriology (growth media/conditions for cultivation, selection, enrichment; resistance testing, biochemical features), serology (immunfluorescence, ELISA, Western blot, agglutination, CRP, neopterin, iron status), molecular biological tools (in situ hybridization, RFLP,RAPD, qPCR)
